Music Hunter has hosted packed out Bandaluzia Flamenco concerts and now for the first time in the Bluey's we can get up close and personal with Damian Wright as we experience him solo and discover first hand why he is an ARIA nominated musician that critics rave about.
In this concert Damian will present the extraordinary variety of musical styles within the flamenco guitar tradition, with influences from it's most historical origins to the most contemporary and personal interpretations of this incredible art form. Witness the world of the flamenco guitar in all it's virtuosity, depth and imagination by one of Australia's most respected musicians.
With Damian's consummate expressive powers on guitar, coupled with the unique venue atmosphere, this event is bound to be a sound made in heaven. Music Hunter patrons have also witnessed DAMIEN WRIGHT perform in 2013 at Kindlehill in the trio called Rasaduende, alongside Bobby Singh & Adrian McNeil.
"Damian Wright is a brilliant flamenco guitarist...Wright showed what a captivating solo player he is on his own "In Time", and elsewhere his articulation of complex lines was fluid and dripping with conviction" - wrote John Shand from Sydney Morning Herald, a Blue Mountains creative himself, with acute listening abilities.
John should know.... Recently Shand won the inaugural Walkley Award for Arts Journalism. "
Herald editor Lisa Davies was thrilled at Shand's win."John's writing on music and theatre is well-known to the readers of The Sydney Morning Herald, from the arts pages to Spectrum, Shortlist and S," she said. "The Sydney Morning Herald continues to be the authority on Sydney culture and our writers deliver the best arts coverage in the city.
"In his winning piece of work, which was originally delivered as the Jackie Orszaczky Music Lecture and later appeared in the Herald in abridged form, Shand argued passionately that music at its best must be honest."So how do we define this elusive trait in music called truth, and why is it so important?" he wrote. "Truth is playing the music rather than the instrument. It's the player or singer extracting essences by meaning every note."
John also rates highly the rare acoustics of the Kindlehill Performance Space indoor amphitheatre. He's also penned past words in support of Music Hunter . "I have reviewed several concerts presented by Meg Benson over the years. She has a keen ear for quality, making a high proportion of her concerts review-worthy for the SMH. She also has a keen instinct for matching a given act with the right venue, and with creating environments in which the music can be heard to best advantage. As a player I have performed for her in my Dreams of Falling project with the great Bruce Cale, one of the Blue Mountains most august musicians, and learned from the inside the care she takes in presenting her concerts. All in all Meg has added immeasurably to the Blue Mountain's cultural wealth, and she should be encouraged in any way possible with her future endeavours." ...More about Damian
